átoa Aquarium × Art sits on Kobe's waterfront in the Shinko area, where more than 100 species and over 3,000 aquatic creatures share space with around 50 art installations. The centerpiece is Japan's largest spherical aquarium tank, where laser shows play across the water and fish move through shifting light. The "MIYABI" zone takes a different approach, drawing on Japanese aesthetics to create a quieter, more contemplative contrast to the high-tech spectacle elsewhere in the building. Throughout, the boundary between aquarium and art installation stays deliberately blurred, with projection mapping and immersive lighting used alongside the live exhibits.
Once inside, you can also stop by the átoa café or browse the museum shop before or after your visit. The aquarium is designed as a self-guided walkthrough, so you can move through the eight zones at your own pace and spend as much or as little time as you like in each one.
