About this experience
Sea World Ancol sits within Jakarta's Ancol Dreamland area and holds thousands of marine and freshwater creatures across 28 displays, split between 9 freshwater aquariums, 19 marine aquariums and 4 open ponds. Species on show range from reptiles to fish and invertebrates, giving you a close look at biota you wouldn't normally encounter outside a dive trip.
The centrepiece is the Antasena Tunnel, a main aquarium holding up to five million litres of seawater where you walk through with marine life circling overhead and on all sides. The Shark Aquarium is home to black tip sharks, hammerhead sharks and other species, with a live shark feeding demonstration held daily. At the Interactive Aquarium, you can dip your hands into the water and touch fish directly, a setup built on Pascal's law of physics that keeps the water contained despite the openings.
This aquarium in Jakarta works well as a half-day stop, combining self-guided exploration of the tanks with scheduled moments like the feeding show. Ticket options include combined access with Samudra and Jakarta Bird Land for those wanting to extend the visit within the Ancol complex.
What to expect
Your visit typically begins at the main aquarium area, where the Antasena Tunnel puts you at the centre of the action as sharks, rays and hundreds of other species move around and above you. From there, exhibits are organized so you can move at your own pace between the freshwater and marine aquarium sections, taking in the open ponds along the way.
A highlight for many is timing their walk-through to coincide with the daily shark feeding show at the Shark Aquarium, where you can watch various shark species feed up close. Before or after, the Interactive Aquarium offers a hands-on moment where you can touch fish directly. A full visit covering the main exhibits and the feeding show comfortably fills a couple of hours, longer if you've added combined access to Samudra or Jakarta Bird Land.
Things to note
- Wear casual, comfortable clothing suited to walking around indoor and outdoor exhibits
- The venue is wheelchair accessible
- Check the official Sea World Ancol website for the latest operating hours before you go
- Bring a light layer if you're sensitive to air conditioning in the tunnel and indoor aquarium areas
- Arrive early if you want a clearer view during the shark feeding show, as it draws crowds
- Keep hands and belongings away from tank edges except at the designated Interactive Aquarium
