From Glasgow: Jacobite Steam Train and Highlands Day Tour

This full-day tour takes you from Glasgow into some of Scotland's most dramatic landscapes, ending with a 2-hour journey on the Jacobite Steam Train - the same locomotive used as the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films. Along the way, you'll pass Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park and cross the wide, empty expanse of Rannoch Moor before reaching Glen Coe, a valley framed by steep peaks and glacial ridges.

The route continues to Mallaig, a working fishing village on Scotland's west coast where you can wander the harbour or pick up an early seafood dinner before boarding the train. From Mallaig, the Jacobite Steam Train carries you along the coastline and over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, the 21-arch railway bridge instantly recognisable from the films. You'll disembark in Fort William before a scenic coach ride returns you to Glasgow.

It's a long day out of Glasgow, but one that covers a wide sweep of the Highlands - lochs, moorland, mountains and coast - built around a genuinely iconic train ride rather than just a scenic drive.

The day starts with a morning departure from Glasgow, heading straight into Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park before crossing the open moorland of Rannoch Moor. A stop at Glen Coe gives you time to take in the valley's steep ridges and peaks before continuing on to Mallaig, a small fishing village on the west coast where you can grab lunch or an early seafood dinner and explore the harbour.
