About this experience

This cooking school sits on a real organic farm outside Chiang Mai, where the emphasis falls on where food comes from before you ever pick up a wok. You'll walk through vegetable plots and a chicken house, gathering some of the ingredients you'll cook with later, before moving into a separate open-air pavilion set up for small class sizes.

The teaching goes beyond recipes. Instructors explain what each ingredient does nutritionally and share bits of Thai history and food culture as you work through each dish, so the session doubles as a hands-on introduction to how northern Thai cooking developed. Classes cover either a full Thai menu or a local northern Thai menu, and you'll build the dishes step by step, from prepping fresh produce to plating the final result.

Half-day sessions run in morning, afternoon, or evening slots, while full-day courses cover more ground, including a local market visit alongside the farm tour and harvest. Hotel transfer is included on every ticket option, and there's a choice between joining as an active cook or coming along to observe and taste as an accompanying guest.

What to expect

Your day starts with hotel pickup, followed by a visit to the organic farm just outside Chiang Mai. Here you'll walk the grounds, collect eggs from the chicken house, and harvest some of the vegetables that will end up in your dishes. Full-day courses add a stop at a local market first, where you'll pick up additional ingredients used in the northern Thai or full Thai menu you've chosen.

Back at the farm, cooking takes place in a separate pavilion kept to small class sizes, so there's room to ask questions as you go. An instructor walks you through each dish step by step, explaining the role of different ingredients and sharing background on Thai food traditions along the way. Half-day sessions run around three to four hours depending on the time slot, while full-day courses stretch across the day to include the market stop, farm activities, and a fuller menu. You'll finish having cooked and eaten a full home-style Thai meal, with hotel transfer back included.

Things to note

  • Wear closed shoes suitable for walking on farmland
  • Bring a hat and sunscreen, as the farm tour and harvest take place outdoors
  • Choose an accompanying ticket if you'd rather taste and observe than cook
  • Half-day sessions run in morning, afternoon, or evening slots, so pick a time that fits your schedule
  • Let the school know in advance about any food allergies or dietary restrictions
  • Full-day courses include a market visit, so bring small cash for personal purchases if you'd like
