About this experience

This full-day speedboat trip crosses the Andaman Sea from Phuket to the Phi Phi Islands, taking in some of the most photographed scenery in southern Thailand. You'll pull into Maya Bay, the white-sand cove framed by limestone cliffs, before continuing to Pileh Lagoon, a narrow inlet of emerald water ringed by sheer rock walls. The route also passes Viking Cave, known for its bird's nest harvesting and old wall paintings visible from the boat.

Along the way there's time in the water at snorkeling spots where coral reefs and tropical fish gather close to the surface, plus a stop at Monkey Beach to watch wild macaques along the shoreline. The trip rounds off at Khai Island, where clear shallow water makes for an easy final swim before heading back to the mainland. A beachside lunch is included partway through the day.

Round-trip hotel transfers in Phuket are part of the package, so you don't need to arrange separate transport to the pier. Two ticket options are available, depending on whether you want the Thai national park entrance fee included upfront or paid separately.

What to expect

The day starts with hotel pickup in Phuket and a transfer to the pier, where you board the speedboat for the crossing to the Phi Phi Islands. First stops typically include Maya Bay and Pileh Lagoon, giving you time to walk the sand and swim in the lagoon's still, clear water, followed by a pass by Viking Cave to see the cliffside markings from the boat.

The middle of the day is built around the water: snorkeling at a reef stop, a visit to Monkey Beach to see the resident macaques, and a beachside lunch to refuel. The final leg heads to Khai Island for one more swim in shallow water before the speedboat returns to Phuket and you're transferred back to your hotel.

Things to note

  • Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses as most of the day is spent outdoors on open water
  • Pack a change of clothes and a dry bag to protect phones and cameras from sea spray
  • Wear a swimsuit under your clothes to make snorkeling stops quicker and easier
  • Bring cash for the national park entrance fee if you choose the ticket option that excludes it
  • Motion sickness tablets are worth carrying if you're prone to seasickness on speedboats
  • Water shoes or sandals with a good grip help on rocky or uneven beach entries
