About this experience
Bangkok Elephant Park sits on a rural plot in Nong Chok district, roughly 1 to 1.5 hours from downtown Bangkok. It was set up as a retirement home for elephants rescued from riding camps and forced labor, and it runs on a strict no-riding, no-performance policy. Instead of watching from a distance, you spend the visit alongside the elephants across jungle, open grazing fields, and natural mud ponds.
The program moves through several hands-on stages. After a briefing on each elephant's rescue story and safe interaction rules, you'll craft a traditional Thai herbal inhaler (Ya Dom) during a short cultural workshop. Then it's time to hand-feed the elephants fruit, roll vitamin balls from mashed ingredients, and walk with them as they graze and socialize in the jungle. The mud spa and river bathing session, where you help apply mud and scrub the elephants clean in the water, is the main event of the day.
Half-day morning and afternoon programs are available, along with full-day packages, and you can book with or without round-trip hotel transfer. Towels and a change of clothes are provided before you sit down to a traditional Thai buffet lunch box, and the sanctuary's photographers upload photos of the day for free download.
What to expect
