About this experience
This private tour takes you through the highland interior of Bali, starting with a pickup directly from your accommodation in Ubud. The day is built around water and greenery: two distinct waterfalls, a centuries-old holy spring temple, and one of the region's best-known rice terraces. It's a slower, more scenic side of Bali, reached along quiet roads away from the busier coastal towns.
The first stop is Tibumana Waterfall, tucked into a jungle gorge and reached via a short walk through the forest, where you can swim in the natural rock pools at its base. From there, you'll head to Kanto Lampo Waterfall, a multi-tiered cascade with a wide, layered rock face that looks different from anything else around Ubud. The tour continues to Tirta Empul Temple near Tampaksiring, where Balinese Hindus have come for over a thousand years to purify themselves in the holy spring water — you're welcome to join the ritual and pass beneath the fountains yourself, sarongs are provided at the entrance.
After a lunch stop at a local restaurant (paid separately), the day wraps up at the Tegalalang Rice Terrace, with the option to visit a coffee plantation for a tasting before returning to your hotel. Vehicles are arranged for groups of 1, 2-4, or 5 or more people, so the pace and privacy of the day stay consistent throughout.
What to expect
Your day starts with a pickup from your accommodation in Ubud at your chosen time slot, either 7am, 7.30am, or 8am. The route heads into Bali's highland interior, beginning at Tibumana Waterfall, where a short forest walk leads to a jungle gorge with natural pools you can swim in. Next comes Kanto Lampo Waterfall, known for its broad, tiered rock formation, before the tour continues to Tirta Empul Temple in Manukaya, where you can join the centuries-old purification ritual in the sacred spring pools.
After the temple visit, there's a stop for lunch at a local restaurant at your own expense, giving you time to rest and try Balinese food. The day finishes with a visit to the Tegalalang Rice Terrace, with an optional coffee tasting nearby, before you're driven back to your accommodation.
Things to note
- Bring a swimsuit and a towel if you plan to swim at either waterfall
- Wear shoes with good grip, as paths to the waterfalls involve short walks over uneven or wet terrain
- Modest, respectful clothing is required inside Tirta Empul Temple; sarongs are available at the entrance
- Lunch is not included and is paid for separately at the restaurant
- Rice terrace appearance varies depending on the season and harvest cycle
- This tour is not wheelchair accessible
