About this experience

Trade the sightseeing bus for a quad bike and head into the countryside around Silakarang, near Ubud. This ATV adventure takes you along dirt tracks that weave through working rice fields, past village houses and along routes rarely seen from a tour van. A guide leads the way for the full 1.5-hour ride, stopping at points along the route so you can take in the views or snap a few photos of Balinese village life as you pass through.

You can ride solo or share a tandem quad with a partner, choosing between a 250cc or 350cc ATV depending on the ticket you book. The route builds up to a muddy off-road section, the kind where you'll come back splattered but grinning. It's a hands-on way to see a side of Bali that stays hidden from most itineraries, mixing rural scenery with a genuine adrenaline hit.

Back at the basecamp, shower facilities and towels are on hand to help you clean up before heading off to the next stop on your Bali trip. A welcome drink greets you on arrival, and lockers are available at no extra cost while you're out on the trail.

What to expect

On arrival at the basecamp in Silakarang, you'll be greeted with a welcome drink and complete a quick registration. Lockers are available free of charge, so you can leave your belongings behind while you change and gear up for the ride. A guide is assigned to your group before setting off, ready to lead the route and help with handling the quad bike if you're new to riding.

The ride itself runs around 1.5 hours, taking you through village paths and rice paddy views before reaching the muddier off-road section where things get properly hands-on. Your guide stops periodically along the way for photos or a closer look at village life. Once you're back at basecamp, shower facilities and towels are ready so you can rinse off the mud, with photos from the ride available to purchase separately at the photo corner if you'd like a souvenir of the trip.

Things to note

  • Wear clothes you don't mind getting muddy — long sleeves and sport shoes or strapped sandals are worth bringing
  • Bring a change of clothes for after the ride, since the off-road section can get genuinely muddy
  • Pack sunscreen and a hat, as much of the route is outdoors and exposed to the sun
  • Bring your own camera if you want photos — no photo service is included on this trip
  • Not suitable for pregnant women or those with heart, back or asthma conditions
  • Carry a bit of extra cash for drinks or souvenirs at the basecamp
